Handley Page Halifax W7928 of 1669 Heavy Conversion Unit based at RAF Bottesford stalled possibly due to icing while on a navigation exercise. Six members of the crew bailed out and were lost. The pilot managed to make an emergency landing in Cornwall.

the body of 1818890 F/Sgt A E W James was washed ashore at Porthmisson Beach, Trevone Bay, Padstow. F/Sgt James has been identified as a one of the crew of a Handley Page Halifax who baled out off the North Cornish coast during the night of 4th January.

Hawker Tempest V NV649 of 222 Squadron RAF Predannack crashed into the sea 25 miles S of the Lizard. The pilot F/Lt R J Floyd missing presumed dead.

an Airspeed Oxford II T1338 of the Station Flight RAF Elsham Wolds, Lincolnshire suffered a loss of power and had the undercarriage jam in the up position before belly landing at St Mary’s Airport, Isles of Scilly. The aircraft was damaged but the crew of three were uninjured.

de Havilland Mosquito NFXIX TA439 of 1 Overseas Aircraft Despatch Unit crashed into the sea SW of the Isles of Scilly from 1500 feet, possibly due to icing or anoxia due to failure of the oxygen system.

a Hawker Tempest V NV648 of 222 Squadron based at RAF Predannack suffered engine failure and the pilot F/Lt R P Dashwood bailed out SW of Constantine. The aircraft crashed and was wrecked at Goonreath Farm, Gweek 2 miles S of Constantine Police Station.

Short Sunderland III ML770 of 228 Squadron based at Pembroke Dock, Wales was taxing back to the flare path at St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly after an Anti-Submarine patrol when it struck a rock and was damaged.

Douglas C-47A-75-DL Skytrain 42-100976 S2-T of the 314th Troop Carrier Group 32nd Troop Carrier Squadron based at Saltby, Nottinghamshire crashed at St Mary’s Airport, Isles of Scilly. The aircraft was extensively damaged the crew were uninjured.

Hawker Henley TT III L3330 of 639 Squadron based at RAF Cleave crashed at Eastway Farm, Kilkhampton 3 miles W of Kilkhampton Police Station. The aircraft was wrecked and one of the two crew was injured.

Vickers Warwick GR V PN762 of 179 Squadron RAF St Eval crashed at Bungalow Gardens, Carnanton, St Mawgan. The aircraft was completely smashed and burnt out, one crewman was injured.

de Havilland Mosquito NFXIX TA226 of 1 Overseas Aircraft Despatch Unit based at RAF Portreath crashed just after take off at Copperhill Farm, 1¼ miles S of Redruth Police Station. The crew of two were killed.

de Havilland Mosquito BXXV KB564 of 1 Overseas Aircraft Despatch Unit RAF Portreath suffered excessive oil temperature in the starboard engine and the pilot feathered the propeller. The aircraft overshot while landing on the port engine, and crashed in a field SW of the aerodrome.

Vickers Wellington XIV NC419 CX-?14 Squadron based at RAF Chivenor, Devon flown by F/Lt Hogg RCAF and crew had an internal petrol leak and while making for an emergency landing at RAF St Eval, the crew were overcome by fumes and crashed into the cliff face at Trenance, Mawgan Porth, St Mawgan. The crew of six were killed.

Consolidated Liberator flying from West to East dropped a bomb which penetrated the lawn of Bude Coastguard Station and exploded about 20 yards from houses. The RAF have been informed, who describe the object as a passage bomb used to obtain wind directions when over the sea.

de Havilland Mosquito NF XXX NT473 of 151 Squadron based at RAF Predannack was returning to base on one engine when the pilot mistook the form of a harbour for his base, he reduced height and crashed into the ground in line with the runway 1½ miles from the airfield at Trenoon Farm, Grade Ruan 2 miles E of Mullion Police Station. The aircraft was burnt out and the crew of two were killed.

Supermarine Seafire LIII NF442 of 736 Squadron based at RNAS St Merryn crashed at Colbiggan Farm, 2½ miles NE of Roche Police Station. The pilot was killed.

the body of an Australian airman Aus/432543 W/O Ivan Leslie Baker from RAF St Eval has been recovered from the sea off Trevose Head, St Merryn.

A glider target No 1628, 25 feet in length crashed in a field at Halgabron Farm, Tintagel. The glider had broken away from its towing aircraft.

An Airspeed Oxford PH357 of 1529 Flight had a propeller break on take off from RAF St Mawgan, the aircraft crash landed and was damaged beyond repair.

de Havilland Mosquito NFXXX MM745/G HU-A 406 Squadron RCAF RAF Predannack overshot the airfield crashed and exploded at Chyvarloe Farm, Gunwalloe, Helston 2¾ miles SW of Helston Police Station. The aircraft was completely burnt out of the two crew one was seriously injured the other killed.

Handley Page Halifax VII PN305 9U-W of 644 Squadron based at Tarrant Rushton, Dorset crashed at Priddacombe, Bolventnor. The aircraft was completely wrecked and all 21 on board killed.

de Havilland Mosquito NF XXX NT489 of 151 Squadron swung on take off from RAF Predannack, hit a blister hangar and damaged Mosquito NFXXX NT306 of the same squadron.
